This is Kaitlin's last semester as a member of the Info Desk team as she will be leaving us to pursue a position that is more in line with her career goals. I will miss Kaitlin and what she added to the desk. Almost 3 years ago I set up a time to meet Kaitlin and interview her for a position at the Info Desk. She had prior library experience which is always a benefit. I was impressed by her demeanor and knew she would be a great fit. Now almost three years later she has superseded my expectations. Kaitlin is great with the public, never rushing and always giving 110%.
It was great getting to know Kaitlin over this time and hearing about her life on campus and her family. One of my favorite parts of my job is getting to know the students and learning from them. (Kaitlin inspired me to finish my assignments early, or at least try to.) Even though it is sad to see you go I wish you the best as you go forward. I am sure you will accomplish whatever you set your mind on! Good luck and keep in touch!

Good Bye and Good Luck!
Now comes my least favorite part of my job, saying good bye. I have two amazing students graduating this semester and who will be starting the next exciting chapters in their lives. It was great getting to know the both of you and I wish you all the best. Please stay in touch!
Lucy Perkins started for me 4 years ago as a freshman. Allan from Systems said he knew of someone looking for a job and was wondering if I had any openings. I did not normally hire that way, but I figured if Allan recommended her, I would give her a shot. I met her for the first time in the summer and I remember that she was polite and quiet. I remember when she first started that she would stand behind the desk, probably because she was used to her job at CVS. In the last 4 years it has been a pleasure getting to know Lucy and being a part of her college experience. I will remember our talks and getting to know her. I will especially remember the thoughtful cupcakes she made me for my first day of graduate school. It made that scarier day nicer and sweeter. Good luck with your future wedding and everything else your life will bring you.
Mandip Kaur started for me part way through her college career. I was approached by Robby and Patterson of the Building Operations Desk. They said a student who worked at the cafe was inquiring about a job at the Info Desk. They highly recommended her and said that she was an extremely hard worker. Better yet she liked to work Sundays! So I met her up with her briefly and decided with her outgoing personality that she would be a great addition to the Info Desk team. That first semester she worked Fridays and Sundays. We would spend Fridays training and getting to know each other. We would also discuss what staff members to talk to and what staff members to avoid. It was great getting to know Mandip and being part of her college experience as well. I don't think I will ever have another student who is so willing to work weekends ever again!! Good luck with your nursing career and the life ahead of you!

D.J. will be leaving the Information Desk team after over 5 years of service. He started working for me in the Fall of 2005. He currently holds the record for most years of service! It has been a pleasure to have been part of your college experience and getting to know you these last 5 years. You have also been one of the best at looking up and smiling as people enter the building (and other staff have noticed and commented over the years). I wish you all the best on your journey in life, you deserve it!
Goodbye Juan!
It is with great sadness that I bid Juan a fond farewell. Juan will be leaving the Information Desk Team to take another position on campus. We will miss him at the desk but he promises to still be around. Juan started working for me many years ago (so many my old brain can't remember). I believe his first shift was to work a weekend shift so I did not get to see him very often. (I must confess for the first semester or so I found Juan intimidating mostly because I felt he was extremely intelligent and he was very quiet.) But over the years and as he worked during the week I got to know him. Juan will be missed as he was great at helping people at the desk and going the extra mile. He is also the only student who has had a congratulations on getting married post on the blog, so he currently holds that record! We will miss and please keep in touch!

It is amazing how fast the time goes by...it is now the end of another school year! I want to thank all of you for your hard work and dedication to the Info Desk. You guys truly make me look good and I could not do it without you. It has been great spending another year with all of you.
Now to the goodbyes... :(
Dan - I remember hiring Dan upstairs in the 4th floor lobby. He could do the few hours that I had left and I decided to hire him on the spot. I am glad I did. It has been a pleasure working with Dan. He has a great positive attitude and always has a smile on his face. He can always make me laugh. He also pulled the first ever April Fool's joke on me. Kudos!
Jackie - Jackie came in the day the elevator broke during the summer. There was something about her that made me think she would be great for the job...and she was. Her outgoing nature and desire to help people really shines. Lorraine has told me (more than once) that Jackie could tell someone that their car got towed and they would be fine hearing it from her because of her smiley nature.
Jena - I remember the day that Patterson came over to me to ask if I had any openings. There had been a communication error at the BO Desk and Jena had no hours. I did have hours and she came highly recommended so I decided to hire her. Jena was a great addition to the team. Jena has a good attitude and I really enjoy working with her. I have enjoyed our chats.
It has been awesome getting to know all of you and being part of your college experience. I wish the three graduating seniors all the luck in the world! I hope you get all the success that you deserve in life!! I will miss you!!!

It is that time of year again...
It is crazy how fast the semesters go by. I want to thank all of you for another wonderful semester. I could not run this desk without all of your help and I really do appreciate it. Thanks Andrea, Dan, D.J., Jackie, Jena, Juan, and Lucy! I will miss you guys over the break. Make sure you get plenty of rest, home cooked food, and clean laundry. Spring 2009 will be here before we know it. Have a wonderful break and thanks again!!

It is that time of year again when we leave for break. I want to take this time to thank all of you for your hard work over the last semester. I could not have asked for better people to work with and you do make my job such a pleasure. I hope everyone has a great and relaxing winter vacation!
Last but certainly not least it is time we say goodbye to Ryan. It is always great to see students graduate and move on to the next stage in their lives. But it is also sad to say goodbye to someone who over one to several semesters you get to know and see often. Ryan you have been a pleasure to work with and get to know. It has also been fun being able to annoy your Aunt with you. I wish you all the success in the world, you deserve it!
