Thank You!
I have noticed many friends on Facebook posting every day in November things that they are thankful for. It made me think that I want to thank all of you! I want to thank you all for doing such a great job at the Information Desk. You all do a great job of welcoming and helping patrons. I get a lot of compliments about the Information Desk and most of that has to do with all of you and all your hard work. I do not say it enough but I often think about how much I appreciate all of you. I love getting to know you and hearing about your much more exciting lives. I also love hearing about your work and projects in school. I have learned a lot from hearing about your assignments. It is a pleasure working with all of you.

Thank you all for another wonderful semester! I could not run this desk without you. YOU (Kaitlin, Kathleen, Sapna, Sukhjit, Thomas, and Tiffany) make this a very successful service point. So thanks from the bottom of my heart. Good luck with all of the work you still need to finish and your finals. I hope you all have a great and relaxing summer vacation. See you in the fall!

This morning I was talking to a colleague and they commented about how all of the students at the Information Desk are so attentive and welcoming. Thank you all for your hard work, I really appreciate it!

Ribbon Cutting for the Learning Commons Expansion
The News Office made a video of the LC expansion celebration and ribbon cutting interspersed with shots of people using the LC. Click HERE to watch the video. At the very end of the video our very own DJ Versailles is one of the students holding the ribbon for the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Goodbye and Good Luck!
It is amazing how fast the time goes by...it is now the end of another school year! I want to thank all of you for your hard work and dedication to the Info Desk. You guys truly make me look good and I could not do it without you. It has been great spending another year with all of you.
Now to the goodbyes... :(
Dan - I remember hiring Dan upstairs in the 4th floor lobby. He could do the few hours that I had left and I decided to hire him on the spot. I am glad I did. It has been a pleasure working with Dan. He has a great positive attitude and always has a smile on his face. He can always make me laugh. He also pulled the first ever April Fool's joke on me. Kudos!
Jackie - Jackie came in the day the elevator broke during the summer. There was something about her that made me think she would be great for the job...and she was. Her outgoing nature and desire to help people really shines. Lorraine has told me (more than once) that Jackie could tell someone that their car got towed and they would be fine hearing it from her because of her smiley nature.
Jena - I remember the day that Patterson came over to me to ask if I had any openings. There had been a communication error at the BO Desk and Jena had no hours. I did have hours and she came highly recommended so I decided to hire her. Jena was a great addition to the team. Jena has a good attitude and I really enjoy working with her. I have enjoyed our chats.
It has been awesome getting to know all of you and being part of your college experience. I wish the three graduating seniors all the luck in the world! I hope you get all the success that you deserve in life!! I will miss you!!!

It is that time of year again...
It is crazy how fast the semesters go by. I want to thank all of you for another wonderful semester. I could not run this desk without all of your help and I really do appreciate it. Thanks Andrea, Dan, D.J., Jackie, Jena, Juan, and Lucy! I will miss you guys over the break. Make sure you get plenty of rest, home cooked food, and clean laundry. Spring 2009 will be here before we know it. Have a wonderful break and thanks again!!

Today in a meeting in front of all of the Learning Commons Providers I had a nice surprise. Emily Alling who is the Head of the Learning Commons said in front of everyone that she was very impressed with the student staff who worked this Saturday, October 18th at the Information Desk. She said that there were tours because of homecoming and the students were a great help. Great job D.J. and Lucy! After the meeting I thanked her for her nice compliment of the desk and she said she is impressed with all the student staff at the desk! Great job everyone!!

Lucy! A staff member complimented an Info Desk student matching Lucy's description. She said that Lucy made great eye contact and smiled at her as she walked in to the Library. Good Job and keep up the good work!
It is almost Summer!
Time sure flies, it is almost the end of the academic year again! I want to take this time to thank you for all of your hard work. I really appreciate all of you! You are all very dependable and reliable. Except for minor exceptions the punctuality and attendance has been outstanding. It has been a pleasure working with you all this year. You make my job enjoyable and fun and also make me look good!
I also want to thank Lenz who will be graduating in a few weeks. I wish you a life full of success and happiness. I will miss your smile next year!

The end of the semester is fast approaching. Before you know it most of us will be leaving the area for the summer. The Library will be a bit more calm and subdued with most students away. Before then I want to take the time to thank all of you. I want to thank you Dan, D.J., Jena, Juan, Mandi, and Ryan for another great semester. I really keep getting lucky by having a great group of students who make my job extremely easy and enjoyable. I am also glad to be part of your college experience.
The bittersweet thing about having students for employees is you do get attached and eventually they graduate and move on to much better things. When I first got hired to work as Information Desk Supervisor I actually had a few regular staff members to help me. Then my boss decided that we could hire students to fill the hours at the Information Desk. One of the two people that I first interviewed, hired and trained was Mandi. I still remember interviewing her. I don't know which one of us was more nervous. And she has stayed and worked for me for that last 4 years. It has been great being part of her life for the last 4 years. Good luck Mandi in everything that you do, I wish you all the success in the world!
I am also sad that Jena will be taking a year off from UMass Amherst but still attending school. She will be returning for her Senior year and I hope to have her back. It has been great getting to know you.

It is coming down to the end of the semester and things will soon get crazy for all of us. (Crazier than normal anyway.) I just wanted to take this time to tell you how much I have appreciated working with all of you this semester. With very few exceptions the attendance and punctuality has been outstanding this semester. You are all extremely responsible and dependable and it makes my job not only easy but enjoyable. I really do appreciate you all and enjoy being a part of your college years.
Here is to a great last few weeks of the semester and fantastic Holiday Season! Good luck in your classes and on your Finals!

The other day a staff member from LRC came up to the desk to talk to me. She wanted to know who that day had sent someone up to the Learning Resource Center for tutoring from the Information Desk. She wanted to know who had shown the patron the Tutoring Schedule online. I knew who it was because I was talking to Jena at the time she was helping the patron. She was so happy and impressed about the level of service that Jena had given. I like to pass on the compliments when I get them.
Check out the LRC Tutoring schedule online if you have not already. It helps save the patron a trip if the tutoring for that class is not being offered for that day. If you need any assistance please ask.

Holy Questions Batman!
Awesome job everybody!! I just finished doing the statistics from Fiscal Year 2006. From July 2005 to June 2006 the General Information Desk answered 20,356 questions! That number seems very impressive! That means we all answered an average of 2,908 questions each. Thanks for all of your hard work and making the General Information Desk a success!
