Where is the link that tells you how to print remotely?

What this does is allow student to print from their laptops to the IT print stations downstairs. They can print to the B&W and Color printers.
The Learning Commons and Technical Assistance Desk can give further information and help people with the download.

A patron wanted a room larger then the study carrels with the ethernet jacks in the library - is this possible?
There are larger study rooms (aka carrels) available in the library but they are only available to graduate students and faculty. They will need to speak to someone at the Circulation/Reserves Desk if they are eligible. Although I am unsure of the availability at this time during the semester.There are open study carrels on 10 that are available to all patrons.
I'm not sure that you could find an available Ethernet port anywhere in the building now that we have WiFi.

Is there wireless printing? -Dan
I think you are asking me if you can print from a laptop using the wireless network, the answer is yes. If a student wants to print to the IT printers downstairs they need to go HERE to IT and download the remote printing software. (They only need to do this the first time.) Once this is done a student can print from their laptop anywhere on campus to the IT printers in the Learning Commons.

Where are internet jacks located? -Dan
I asked several people and the only place that people can "plug in" to the internet is downstairs in the Learning Commons. Wireless is located throughout the building.

Can other students from the 5-Colleges get on the internet?
Short answer, no. You need an Eduroam account to access the wireless on campus. It is possible for a 5-College student to have an account if they are taking a class at UMass that gives them a SPIRE login. If they don't have access they must log in as a public user on the computers in the LC if they want to use the Internet.

In the Learning Commons where the IT machines (machines you must log in to) are they do have extra jacks and cables for students to use.

Do you need a password to use wireless? Or an IT account?
Yes! To use the wireless network on campus you need to have an IT account to be able to download the drivers for Eduroam. This requires a NetID username and password.
People not affiliated with campus can use the public computers downstairs, and UMass Staff and Faculty can create a guest login to Eduroam that lasts 72 Hours.
If a patron is using the building for research and is going to be here long term they can apply though IT for a temporary login that will last for their entire stay.

The ENTIRE building is Wireless! Only UMass staff and students have log in access to the wireless.
