Reference desk has moved

The reference librarians will now be located at the Circulation/Reserves desk. They still have their big "Ask a Librarian" sign, so it should be easy to see.

Where is the Consultation Room?

The Consultation Room (aka Reference Consultation Room) is located in the Learning Commons, near the Reference Collection.  It should be on the map.  This is mostly for students when they meet one on one with a Librarian. You can also just send them to the Reference Desk and they can direct them.

What shoud I do if one of the other library desks is not staffed?

If it is supposed to be staffed then have the patron check back in a few minutes. It could be possible that the staff at the desk are away helping someone at the moment. If they don't come back then give the patron the main number for the desk...

The Reference and Research Assistance Desk is located in the North East corner of the Learning Commons.

Where is the U.S. Census Data? -Jena

Send the patron to the LC Desk for Reference Assistance downstairs. The Librarian there will be able to help them.

Is there a Genealogy Department?

No, but we do have some research guides on how to conduct genealogical research. Click HERE to find them. You can also send them to the LC Desk for Research Assistance help.

What is the best option if someone is looking for Essays on a book? I sent them to the LC Desk.

That is exactly where to send them. Unless they are looking for a specific book or author send them to the LC Desk. The Librarians are trained professionals that will be able to help the patrons quickly and efficiently.

What is the difference between the library database and e-journals?

Databases are just a collection of data that is easily searched. It basically lets you know of articles that exist in the world but does not mean we have them. They are just a collection of information on articles. You would use these if you had a particular subject you need to look up.

E-Journals are actual electronic subscriptions that we have for different magazines and journals. Just like we have the paper version of Time magazine we may have the Journal of Awesomeness (not a real journal) for the last 5 years. You can usually search within a particular journal for articles on a particular subject.
