What is the procedure for a patron looking for a book that is not in its proper location? -D.J.

First you want to check the item again in the card catalog. Make sure the item is not actually in Reserves on the Lower Level (this often happens.) Also make sure that it is not actually at a different school's library, AC or Amherst College for example. If that is the case they can try requesting the item to come here. If it should be here but it is not try calling the Stack Management people at 5-3796. If they have the staff they will help the patron look for the book. If no one answers or they can't locate the book then help the patron request the item they are looking for. This will create a search for the book and someone will try and locate the book for them. If they find the book it will be put on the holdshelf  on the Lower Level. The person will be notified via email it is here and ready for pick-up.
