Here is a passage taken from the Staff Intranet...I have highlighted the good parts.
Took our Children to Work Day 2006
We had 100 participants this year. This 47% increase over last year is largely due to the excellent work done by people running this event in the past who paved the way for us. People were glad that we were doing it again.
The students at the Information Desk in the lobby did a great job of getting participants started. Karen’s enthusiasm at the courtyard garden really paid off and she handed out packs of Forget-me-not seeds. Folks seemed interested in the Russian books in the display area and did indeed recognize some of the stories from the pictures on the covers. They learned about the parts of a book from Lorraine James in preservation. She gave out Sponge Bob stickers and book marks. The kids liked the caterpillar bookmarks.
I saw a few of the Scavenger Hunt forms and noted the unsolicited comment that Sandy’s display in the map collection was at least one person’s favorite stop. Barbara Stewart had candy for the kids on floor 11, and I saw kids really looking at the books and even reading. There were positive comments about Liz Scott’s book cover work on the walls. People always enjoy the views from the 23rd floor and the kids reported seeing everything from mountains to Hadley to ducks. In SCUA there were book marks, bouncy balls and, of course, coupons for their treats in Circulation.
Special thanks to Annette Vadnais and her students, Lorraine James, Sandy Lillydahl, Barbara Stewart, Andrea Morris, Mike Milewski, and the folks in Circulation for all their help. We couldn’t have done it without you.
